Belgrade Airport Announces New Terminal Expansion

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport has revealed plans for a major terminal expansion, scheduled for completion ahead of the Expo 2027 event, which will take place in the Serbian capital from May to August 2027. The project will include the addition of three new gates, C15 to C17, located in the recently extended C pier, along with four additional aircraft parking positions. This expansion will add 18,353 square meters to the C wing, bringing the total area to 45,298 square meters. As part of its ongoing transformation, the airport has already increased its total size by 39,300 square meters to 93,651 square meters, with an extra twelve gates added, totalling 31 gates, and eleven new parking stands, raising the total to 38.

Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of Belgrade’s operator VINCI Airports, highlighted the airport’s significant progress, stating, "Since the start of the concession, we have worked closely with Serbian authorities and our partners to elevate Nikola Tesla Airport as a hub for Southeast Europe, aiming to serve 15 million passengers by the end of the concession period. By the end of 2023, the airport saw nearly 8 million passengers, compared to 6.2 million in 2019, and expanded its network with 46 new destinations and 86 new routes, bringing the total to 116 routes, including four and soon five long-haul destinations."

In addition to terminal expansions, Belgrade Airport is increasing its commercial space by 4,000 square meters, for a total of 9,000 square meters dedicated to new food, beverage outlets, and retail shops. Furthermore, the airport is installing sixteen passport eGates to expedite passport control, expected to be operational by October 2024. While this installation is underway, the airport’s passport control capacity has been temporarily reduced by 25% as some of the 29 passport control booths are being replaced by the new eGates, which are projected to increase efficiency by fivefold.

We are excited to see such developments in Southeast Europe, especially with a key player like Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport emerging as a major hub. With the airport poised to handle increased passenger volumes and long-haul routes, Brookfield is committed to supplying expert aviation professionals to support the growing demand. We ensure that airlines operating in such dynamic environments have access to top-tier talent, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional passenger experiences.
