Boeing to Build Anticipated Boeing 797 in Washington

Boeing is set to move forward with the development of its much-anticipated 797 mid-sized airliners. The company has confirmed plans to build the 797 in the State of Washington, marking the first concrete steps in bringing this aircraft to life.

Commercial Airplanes 8th September, Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, highlighted the importance of this development for both Boeing and the region. She stated, “This contract deepens our commitment to the Pacific Northwest. Boeing’s roots are here in Washington. It is where generations of workers have built incredible airplanes that connect the world.”

Pope further emphasised the significance of this announcement, stating, “As part of the contract, our team in the Puget Sound region will build Boeing’s next new airplane. This would go along with our other flagship models, meaning job security for generations to come. It’s a big commitment to you and to our community.”

While it has not been officially confirmed, this new project is believed to be the Boeing New Midsize Airplane (NMA), also known as the Boeing 797. Although there is still no definitive timeline for when the aircraft will enter production, however Boeing’s commitment to the project suggests that development is moving forward.

Boeing 797: Filling the Market Gap

The Boeing 797 is designed to fill the middle-of-the-market. Since 2015, Boeing has been evaluating this market, with demand estimated between 2,000 and 4,000 aircraft. Airlines have expressed significant interest in the concept, as it would provide a much-needed alternative to existing models.

The development of the Boeing 797 has faced numerous challenges. Boeing put the project on hold, and there were discussions about modifying the design to focus on a short haul narrowbody aircraft, slightly larger than the Boeing 737. While reports have surfaced suggesting delays due to the need for more advanced engine technology, the confirmation of production in Washington signals that Boeing remains committed to the 797.

At Brookfield Aviation International, we congratulate Boeing on its steadfast commitment to innovation in the development of the Boeing 797. We understand the importance of filling critical market gaps and how this new aircraft can transform the mid-size segment, thus allowing for new manufacturing, pilot and engineer jobs. With the economic boost this project will bring to the Pacific Northwest, we look forward to seeing how the 797 will shape the future of commercial aviation. We remain dedicated to supporting developments like these by providing exceptionally talented aviation personnel from our end who will drive the progress and connect the world.
